An Eventful Summer

And yet the most uneventful of all.  The first day we were rear-ended on the drive home from the airport, so there was no vehicle for us to use most of the trip.  It didn't make much difference, though, since I was trying to keep Rodrigo on California time, so we got up late in the morning and went to bed late at night.  Well, late as far as my body was concerned.

One of the first events Rodrigo got to enjoy was naptime on the floor.
Here he is, enjoying such a nap on the rug with his buddy, Alfredo.
Then, the Fourth came and things got super exciting! Rodrigo saw his first fireworks (almost against his will) and got to show off a little patriotism, too!
The camera on the phone broke for a long time, but suddenly it came back and we celebrated with a sleepy picture when we stopped for gas on our way to greet Uncle Ick's friend home from his mission!
Then of course, the cousins were there! Maccabee taught our little sir how to hold his own head up, roll over, and even started him on crawling.
And  now we're back in California, safe and sound.  To celebrate, we went outside! (something we could not do in OK...)

So, that's us!

I love watching the news sometimes.*  It depends on my mood, of course, because I run the risk of getting irritated by the increasingly blatant left wing/right wing propaganda, but today I guess it was just right.
Brought to us by Headline News, I just heard the movie correspondent trying to be witty and comparing the villain Bane with Bain Capital, saying it was little wonder HE'S the villain during a campaign year. When informed that Bane the character has been around a bit longer, he smiled smugly and condescendingly replied, "I'm sure he has."
I love snotty, rude people sometimes.*

*Did you see? Did you see what I did there?

Another First

Piglet had his first rainstorm about an hour ago.  Since just about everywhere in the U.S. is desperately needing rain and Oklahoma droughts every summer, it seems odd to say we really needed it, but there it is.
It was short.
It was sweet.
It was LOUD.  I'd forgotten how loud rain is in my parent's house.
Piglet kept shaking his head like he couldn't believe what he saw, and looking at it with the same wild-eyed expression he gets when I'm burping him.  It was classic.
And there's no picture.  Sorry.  I was kinda busy making sure his adamant head shaking wouldn't throw him right into the driveway. Kid couldn't believe what he saw.  Bath time outside??
What'll they think of next?

Wow. So. Lots of new things.

The truck with all our stuff driven by the amazing in-laws arrived AND got unloaded before we even sold off the rest of our stuff.
We are now camped out in their living room. They're gracious enough to let us do so until we find housing of our own. If anyone who already knows where we're moving to knows of any pretty cheap houses in nice neighborhoods, please do us a solid and let US know.
Well, let Pooh know.
Because I am in Oklahoma visiting my family. My dad is moving back home next week, my sister returns from visiting her in-laws next week, my brother's getting married in August, my other sister arrives with her brand spankin' new baby in August... People, it's just an eventful time out here.
Piglet has developed an interesting new laugh which I love! It's very Aunt Gert. Like in "Lost in Yonkers." Obviously he gets it from me, because I was Aunt Gert in "Lost in Yonkers."
So, despite the new and adorable laughter, he has been super fussy the past two days. I don't think humidity agrees with him. It's taken this trip back to help me remember that humidity doesn't agree with me, either. Just one week of over 100 degree temps AND ridiculous humidity and I'm missing Utah. Beautiful mountains, a drop in air temperature at night, beautiful mountains, no humidity unless it's about to or just has rained, beautiful mountains... You get my drift.
Anyway, it's been decided that we need to cut down on our stuff so that our next move isn't so ridiculous. We've got 4-5 years to do it.
Wish us luck.

Out With The Old!

The title is meaningful in so many ways. Let me count them!

We're moving! To California, if you must know. It's happening soon. Very soon. So we're frantically packing (well, Pooh's doing more of the frantically packing because I've been dealing with a rather obstinate Piglet. But more on that later.), AND trying to get rid of things we don't need. Seriously, us two pack rats trying to get rid of things. It'd probably be more amusing to outsiders than it is to us. It's kind of a 4th circle Hell type ordeal for us. Especially when Pooh asks, "did you want to keep these books?"
YES!! I did want to keep them!
........ but I don't have to. I guess.

We're trying to sell my car (Freud) before we go. Anyone know somebody who'd like a white 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage ES automatic? Runs great! Only $1500. You know you want it...

The new blogger throws me. I would take more time to figure it out, but that leads me into: Piglet.

Ah, Piglet, Piglet, Piglet. You are nearly 2 months old now and have had the hardest time deciding when you wanted to eat or sleep, unless it's right now! or in the case of naps, too late. You've sent me to the baby section of both libraries in our vicinity reading up on babies and sleep and toying with the idea that I should start you on a schedule (which is ludicrous when facing a move, a family reunion, vacation at Nana's, a wedding, and then moving again - kinda) or if I should just go with the flow.
With all the conflicting information out there it was hard to make a decision, and again the whole uprooting all summer made it seem ridiculous. But then so was the amount of sleep Lil Bit and I were getting, and how completely nonsensical his schedule was panning out to be (10-30 minute catnaps one day, 4-6 hour naps another, and not necessarily sleeping at night). I kept leaning toward scheduling his naps despite having decided it'd be a foolish venture. It proved almost instinctual.
Yesterday, he went down for a nap at 2, woke briefly to eat around 4 (I tried to keep him up, but he was out cold), then woke again at 6 when I fed him again and we decided to try and put him to bed since he was already showing signs of falling asleep again. In bed by 7, and after the week he'd put me through, so was I. There was a bit of a rocky period at 10 and between 1 and 3, but we figured it out and all was well until 630 this morning when he insisted he wanted to wake up and smiled upon my arrival, reluctant though I was. We ate and played and tummy timed and he was ready to nap again and out at 830.
In summation, I think scheduling helps. Making him go to bed early helps. So, goodbye following his wonky idea of a sleep schedule!
Speaking of sleep, I'm going to catch some more, too. As much as he'll let me.

Allow Me To Introduce Myself

Hello. My name is "Rodrigo" and I have been here a month.
I have begun experimenting with smiles, much to the confusing delight of my mother. She gets so excited, though she still can't be sure when I'm smiling and when I have gas. I think I'll keep her guessing for now.
I have recently decided that adults are not the boring creatures I'd thought. I find them most interesting, though still only really notice them when they interfere with my observations of light.
I do not believe in schedules. Good thing mom's a stay-at-home, right? Otherwise she might be very cranky with my highly unpredictable sleeping and eating patterns.
I've also begun to enjoy bath time with my father - that is, once they realized they could warm up the bathroom with a space heater. Much better than coming out wet into the cold, don't you think?
Lifting my head high during tummy time still eludes me, but I am getting quite accomplished at using my head as leverage to try and escape those horrible burping sessions. Ugh.
I'm a dreamer. No, really. My sleep is quite noisy as I stretch and react vocally to the scenes playing in my head. It's quite fun in there.

Happy one month, baby boy!

Things I Love About My Boy

Sometimes, when I offer it, he scrunches up his face and looks at me like "I don't need no stinkin' binky!"

When he sleeps, he'll suddenly stretch out his right arm while tucking his left arm behind his head. If you're not sure what this looks like, picture that pose used by so many of the "cool kids" back in the early 2000's.

His eyes appear to be changing to a deep slate gray color, but I can't be sure. It's like he's keeping me in suspense.

The way he frowns when he wakes up. It makes him look just like his daddy (who I can never tell whether or not he's cranky when I wake him up to change a diaper...)

When I offer his binky the second time, he's so excited that he can't keep his head still and frantically turns side to side trying to "chase" the thing into his mouth.

His mouth when I give him gripe water.

The way he sometimes "hugs" me when I'm burping him.
